墟市是社區經濟重要的一環,透過社區內的小型買賣活動,匯聚社區資源、文化承傳、連繫社區鄰里;亦按不同社區獨有的資源和實際需要,墟市亦發展出不同的主題性、季節性(墟期)和買賣模式。墟市在社區的功能除了作為具本土特色的旅遊景點外,同時為居民提供多元而廉價的生活用品選擇,更可協助基層人士創業和就業,對可持續、多元的社區經濟發展具有參考價值。
不過,本地墟市從興旺至息微,到近期政府開始回應社區需要,建議引入美食車、十八區設立夜市等議題,就墟市如何發展再度引起不少討論。是次研討會將邀請本地一些有墟市推廣經驗的團體作專題分享及討論,與參加者一同從地區資源與需求角度,探討墟市的存在價值及發展方向。詳情如下:

Street Market is an integral part of community economy composed with numerous small-scale business activities, serving multi-purpose in gathering social resources, cultural heritage conservation and connecting the community. Being commensal with community characteristics, street markets in Hong Kong have been developed and diversified in themes with seasonal practices. It is not only empowering employment and business start-up, but also benefits to growing a sustainable and diversified economy.

From prosperity of street market to its decline, to recent the Government introduces modern food truck and promotes street vendors across districts, development of street market stirs discussion in civil society. The seminar invites field practitioners and stakeholders to share on the experiences in organizing street market, to explore on its value and future development through discussion.
